Definitions of Matter Types

Tiffany Young — Apr 26, 2018 03:00PM PDT

What are the definitions of the varying matter types? For example, how would I designate that a foreign filed case is a divisional? Would I classify it as Utility: Foreign or Utility: Divisional? Thanks!

Hi – Utility Foreign is the main matter type for all foreign direct file patents. Currently, we do not distinguish foreign first filings against continuing apps. However, we could easily add a Utility: Foreign Divisional matter type for you. Just let us know.

Hi Jonah. The matter type, “Utility: Foreign Divisional,” has been added to your account. Let us know if you have any problems.
