Simple Finances Setup for a Law Firm

Share this article:

Overview:
Enable importing of actuals LEDES files and automatically setup a simple signature authority flow and basic forecast rules.

Steps:

Navigate to the Law Firm Contact:

1. Go to the Contacts Page

2. Go into the record for a Law firm

Enable Law Firm:

  • Click the Enable Finances Slot button.  (This button will only show if the Finances product is enabled and the account has available law firm slots)

  • A pop-up will appear, allowing for quick configuration of initial settings.
  • Simple Signature authority flows and Forecast can be configured here. More advanced configurations can be set up manually from the Finances module. If you do not want the simple default configurations shown here, uncheck the “Setup Simple Signature Authority” and “Setup Simple Forecast Rules” checkboxes.
  • The generated simple signature authority will use the selected contact as the “Initial Reviewer” for actuals invoices that are imported for the law firm. This means that the user is responsible for approving and rejecting each line item of the law firm's invoices.  If a multi-contact choice is selected in the dropdown then the first contact will be the “Initial Reviewer” and any remaining contacts will be “Level 1 Approval”, “Level 2 Approval”, and so on.  The “Level 1 Approval” will sign off on invoices that have already had their line items reviewed by the “Initial Reviewer”.
  • The generated simple forecast rules generated will cause forecast items to be generated for the law firm's matters based on the planned filing date. The simple forecast rules will generate low resolution forecast estimates for US and foreign matters based on their estimated complexity.  If you would like to prevent generation of forecast rules for US or foreign matters you can uncheck the checkbox on the left side of that row.  The rules can be generated without low, medium, and high complexities if you select “Any” in the “For Complexities” dropdown.  Enter the amount you would like to forecast for each phase of the patent process for the current law firm in the textboxes of each row.
