To skip and extend an extendable deadline task, such as a "Respond to Non-Final Office Action - 3 Month Deadline" or "File Section 8 & 15 Declaration - 6 month Deadline" tasks, set the Task Status to “Missed”. This will close the task and create the next deadline in the sequence. For example, missing the 3-month deadline will create the 4-month deadline. Missing the 5-month deadline will create the final (6-month non-extendable) deadline. The following step explain this process:
- From the Tasks module (or from the lower portion of a Matter Details page), find the task and click on the status in the TaskStatus column (normally it will be “Open”).
- Select "Missed" from the Task Status drop down menu.
- Change the date if desired.
- (Optional) Enter a comment indicating why the deadline was missed.
- Click the Set Status button.
- The old task is now closed out and the new deadline is created.
The following video explains these steps in more detail.
