AppColl can download information from the USPTO and create billing item templates for all items in the USPTO Fee Schedule. After the templates have been created, you can easily create expense billing items for PTO fees by simply selecting the fee from the template drop-down when creating a new billing item.
To create billing item templates for all USPTO fees:
1. In the Billing module, click on the Billing Item Templates link in the Navigate section in the left margin.
2. Click on the "Load USPTO Fees" button in the left margin.
If you click on the Load USPTO Fees button after fees have already been loaded, the existing templates will be updated with the latest information from the USPTO. Updating the fees will be necessary if or when the USPTO changes their fees. USPTO Fee billing item templates are not updated automatically.
Note that you can open any of the fee templates and modify the descriptions (which appear in invoices) if you wish. If you change the amount however, it will be changed back to the USPTO amount the next time you click on the "Load USPTO Fees" button. Please do not change the first part of the template title - "USPTO Fee xxxxx:" as AppColl uses this text to find existing fees during updates.
