List of all available columns for Matters

This is the list of all columns available from the summary list view in the Matters module. Most columns apply to both Patents and Trademarks.

  • AbandonedDate: The date when a patent/trademark application is officially abandoned.
  • Abstract: The patent abstract.
  • ActualCost: Legacy information. Please do not use.
  • AdverseParties: Parties who are adverse to a patent/trademark application, such as competitors or other stakeholders.
  • AllowanceDate: The date when a patent/trademark application is allowed.
  • Applicants: The person(s) or entity(ies) who filed a patent/trademark application.
  • ApplicationNum: The application number (for patents) or serial number (for trademarks).
  • ArtUnit: The art unit a patent is assigned to.
  • Assignee: Entities to whom a patent/trademark has been assigned.
  • Attorney: Working attorney for the patent/trademark. This should be the attorney who will be assigned docketing items.
  • AttorneyRef: The docketing number assigned to a patent/trademark or other matter type. Generally this would be the docketing number used with the USPTO. It must be a unique value across all matters. This is a required field for all matter types.
  • BarDate: Any deadline that may be at play wherein a patent/trademark application must be filed before this date.
  • BillAfterFiling: Indicator that a matter's work should be invoiced AFTER the application has been filed.
  • BillingContact: The person responsible for billing and payments related to a matter.
  • BudgetCost: Legacy information. Please do not use.
  • Claim1: The first claim in a patent application.
  • Claims: A list of all the claims in a patent.
  • Classification: The classification(s) assigned to a patent.
  • ClientContact: The person who serves as the main point of contact for a client in a matter.
  • ClientRef: A reference code assigned to a client for tracking and identification purposes. If you are a law firm, it is generally the client's internal number. If you are a corporation it is generally your internal reference number.
  • Complexity: The level of complexity of a matter.
  • ConfirmationNum: The confirmation number assigned by the USPTO upon filing a patent application.
  • Connections: Any priority connections from the present patent/trademark to any other earlier filed patent/trademarks.
  • Contributor: A person associated with the matter in some role other than attorney, partner or contributor. They can be a working attorney, billing attorney or someone else.
  • Country: The country in which the matter was filed.
  • CountryCode: The two-letter code representing the country in which the matter was filed.
  • CreatedDate: The date when a matter was created.
  • Discussion: A conversation or exchange of information related to a matter.
  • EarlyPublication: A flag indicating a patent was published earlier than statutorially required.
  • EmailIntakeAddress: The email address assigned to a matter wherein emails can be sent to his address and stored with the matter.
  • EntityStatus: The entity status of a patent application.
  • Examiner: The patent examiner who is responsible for examining a patent application.
  • ExpectedFirstOfficeActionDate: The expected date of the first office action from a patent examiner in a patent application.
  • ExpensesCap: Legacy information. Please do not use.
  • ExpiredDate: The date when a patent's term of protection has expired.
  • FamilyID: A unique identifier assigned to a group of related patent or trademark applications. Matters linked via priority connections share the same family ID. The family ID is automatically generated and cannot be changed.
  • FastTrack: Whether a patent has been Fast-Tracked with the USPTO.
  • FeesCap: Legacy information. Please do not use.
  • FilingBasis: Filing basis for a Trademark application.
  • FilingDate: Date when the matter was filed with its corresponding patent or trademark office.
  • ForeignAssociate: A foreign associate corresponding to a patent or trademark.
  • ForeignAssociateRef: The foreign associate's docketing number.
  • ForeignFile: An indicator if a matter will be foreign filed. This is manually set by the user.
  • Goods and Services: The international categories of goods and services used in a trademark.
  • Image: A visual representation of the matter. Can be used in any matter type. For trademarks, this would usually be the logo.
  • IntlSearchAuth: The international search authority responsible for examining a patent application.
  • Inventors: Inventors of a patent.
  • IssueDate: Date when a matter is granted.
  • Keywords: Words or phrases that describe the subject matter of a matter.
  • LastPatentCenterUpdate: Date of the last update of information scraped from Patent Center, TSDR or EspaceNet.
  • LastPatentOfficeUpdateDate: Date of the last update of information scraped from Patent Center, TSDR or EspaceNet.
  • LastPatentOfficeUpdateSource: Source of the last of information scraped from Patent Center, TSDR or EspaceNet. The values would be Patent Center, PEDS, TSDR or EspaceNet.
  • LastPatentOfficeUpdateStatus: Status of the information scraped from Patent Center, TSDR or EspaceNet. This value is normally “success” or “failure”. If failure, this means ApColl was unable to retrieve information from the corresponding database.
  • LawFirm: The law firm associated with the matter.
  • LeadInventor: The individual credited as the lead inventor in a patent.
  • Licensees: Individuals or entities that have been granted a license to use the subject matter of a patent.
  • MatterID: A unique identifier for each matter in AppColl. This value cannot be changed.
  • Modified: Date when some time of change was made to a matter's bibliographic information.
  • NextExternalTask: The next task that is due for the matter, wherein the task has a deadline type of “external”.
  • NextExternalTaskDueDate: Due date for the next external task.
  • NextInternalTask: The next task that is due for the matter, wherein the task has a deadline type of “internal”.
  • NextInternalTaskDueDate: Due date for the next internal task.
  • NonPublication: A designation indicating that the patent application will not be published.
  • Notes: Internal notes or comments associated with a matter.
  • NumberOfClaims: The total number of claims included in a patent.
  • NumberOfIndependentClaims: The number of independent claims included in a patent.
  • OfficialFilingDate: A PCT filing date. It should only be populated for National Phase applications claiming priority to a PCT. It should be blank for all matters other than National Phase application.
  • OpenTaskCountExternal: The number of open tasks with “external” deadlines.
  • OpenTaskCountInternal: The number of open tasks with “internal” deadlines.
  • PPHCountry: The country of a Patent Prosecution Highway application.
  • PTOStatus: The official USPTO status as retrieved from Patent Center, PEDS or TSDR.
  • Paralegal: The paralegal associated with a matter.
  • Partner: The partner associated with a matter.
  • PatentNum: The issued patent number for a patent or registration number for a trademark.
  • PatentTermAdjustment: The official PTA as determined by the USPTO. This information would be manually added.
  • PlannedFilingDate: The date that an application is planned for filing.
  • PlantLatinName: The Latin name of a plant species, used for plant variety protection in agriculture.
  • PlantNewCultivated: Indicates whether a plant is a newly cultivated variety.
  • PlantVarietyName: The name given to a plant variety for identification and protection.
  • PriorityDate: The priority date used for a patent or trademark. This date is automatically calculated based on priority connections made to earlier filed applications.
  • PriorityMatter: The earliest filed patent or trademark that is claimed as priority to the matter at issue.
  • Products: Any products associated with a patent or trademark. This is manually filled out by the user.
  • PublicationDate: The date on which a patent or trademark application is published.
  • PublicationNum: The number assigned to a published patent or trademark application.
  • RateCategory: The billing rate category associated with the matter. Billing rates would need to be defined before values appear in the drop down.
  • ReelFrame: The reel and frame number from an assignment.
  • RegistrationNumberID: This valued is used to assign a registered patent attorney as the source for scraping information from Patent Center.
  • RequestContinuedExamination: This is used to show that an RCE has been filed with the present patent.
  • RevivedDate: The date on which a patent application is revived after being abandoned.
  • State: This is used for State Trademarks to populate which state the mark is associated with.
  • Status: The current status of a matter, such as pending, allowed, issued, abandoned, etc.
  • SubmissionDate: This is only used with our Invention Manager product. Please do not use.
  • Technologies: The technologies associated with a matter.
  • TerminalDisclaimer: A disclaimer in a patent application that limits the term of the patent to the term of another, earlier-filed patent.
  • TrademarkRegister: Whether a trademark is on the principal or supplementary register.
  • USGovAgency: Any government agency associated with the matter.
  • USGovContractNum: A contract number associated with a government agency.
  • WIPODASAccessCode: The code used to access the World Intellectual Property Organization's Digital Access Service for patent and trademark documents.
