Regenerate Tasks

Share this article:

Regenerate Tasks at the Task level if you wish to generate one or more tasks from the creation, completion, or other changes to a single task type. This includes the possibility that one triggering event could exist in multiple task types, and you still want them to all generate.

When you regenerate tasks at the task-level, you are simulating that all the highlighted tasks are being re-created with their status being set to their current value. For example, let's say you highlighted three “Respond to Non-Final Office Action - 3 Month Deadline” tasks from the Tasks module and clicked the ‘Regenerate Tasks’ button. This simulates that those three Respond tasks we just created, and their status, owner, and dates were set to the current values. Perhaps you have a “Reminder to File Non-File Office Action” task type that triggers when the Respond to FOA is created. The ‘Regenerate Tasks’ will simulate the Respond tasks being created. The end result being that each matter, with the Respond to FOA task, will also receive a Reminder to File FOA task, as well.

To regenerate Tasks:

  1. Go to the Tasks module.
  2. You may wish to first filter your data to more easily locate the Task(s) you wish to regenerate.
  3. Select the row for the Task you wish to regenerate.
  4. Click the Regenerate Tasks button.

You will receive a confirmation message letting you know your regeneration was successful. You may wish to then view the associated Matter to review the regenerated Task(s).

Scenario:

Task Type 2 generates when Task Type 1 generates, and
Task Type 3 generates when Task Type 2 generates.

If we regenerate tasks at the Task-level (using Task Type 1), both Task Types 1 and 2 will generate since we first create 2 and then create 3. This is because 3 is created when 2 is created.
