Whenever a U.S. trademark, U.S. patent, or PCT matter receives updated transactions from the USPTO (via an XML import, an e-Office Action or TSDR) AppColl either creates an explicit docketing item or a catch-all ‘Review USPTO Communication’ task. The Review task is only created if no other task was created due to the new transaction. For example, an Office Action would certainly generate an explicit to-do action. However, an Examiner Interview Summary would not, so the Review task is created instead.
The exact syntax of the received transaction are placed into the comments section of the Review task. The task is further given an hard external deadline of 7 days so the item doesn't go unnoticed. After reviewing the communication you can simply change the status to "Reviewed" or "Completed". When a matter is imported for the first time, it is common to have one or more of these tasks, depending on the number of items in the prosecution history for the matter.
