Add or Update Patent Matters Using XML Files from Patent Center

This video teaches the process for adding or updating patent matters via XML files that are downloadable from Patent Center. XML files can be used to both create a new matter as well as update an existing matter. Also, multiple XML files can be downloaded from PC at once. Click here for instructions.

U.S. patent matters and PCT applications can be added or updated from Patent Center without the need to download XML files. Click here for instructions on using the new Update Matter button. Please note that this process requires your Patent Center digital certificate file and password to be stored in AppColl. 


 

Follow these steps:

  1. Log into Patent Center
  2. Type the Application number where it says “Enter number” and click the XML button. This will save the information in XML format to your local hard disk.
  3. Log into AppColl and click on the Tasks module.
  4. Click on the big blue Import arrow at the top of the page.
  5. Click the Choose File button to browse for the XML file you downloaded from Patent Center.
  6. Click the Import button and wait for the file to import (this could take up to 30 seconds, depending on your file size).
  7. After the file is imported, a message window will open letting you know the result of the import.
  8. The Attorney Reference for the newly imported matter will be in the matter search box at the top of the page. Click on the Go button next to it to go to the matter details page.
  9. Enter the client name, and any other information you may have and then click the Save button in the left column.
  10. Review the information for accuracy and completeness.
