Depending on the type of matter and it's country, AppColl can update details automatically or manually.

U.S. Patents and PCT Applications Filed in the U.S.

  1. e-Office Action emails can be used to automatically docket items as they are emailed from the PTO. Click here for setting this up. Please note: e-Office Action emails only add docketing items and do not update bibliographic information. Also, the PTO has just begun sending out e-Office Action emails for PCT cases. Thus, it is possible that correspondence is still being sent by mail and not always in emails.
  2. XML files can be manually downloaded from your Patent Center account and imported into AppColl. This process updates a matter with any changes to it's bibliographic information as well as docketing items. Click here for the process.
  3. The "Update Matter" button, located on matter detail pages, can be used to query either EspaceNet or Patent Center to download new information. Please Note: EspaceNet does not provide docketing information, just bibliographic information. Whereas, Patent Center provides the same information as downloading an XML. Click here for instructions on using the "Update Matter" button.

U.S. Trademarks
U.S. trademarks are auto-updated from TSDR on a weekly basis if the mark has a serial and/or registration number. These updates include bibliographic information as well any docketing items. Marks can be manually updated as well by clicking the "Update Matter" button in the matter details page. Click here for instructions on using the "Update Matter" button.

Foreign Patent Matters
For foreign patent matters, AppColl can update bibliographic information when you click the "Update Matter" button on the matter details page. There is no automatic updating. Click here for instructions on using the "Update Matter" button. Please Note: EspaceNet only provides bibliographic information for patents. You would need to manually add docketing items if needed.

Foreign Trademarks
At this time, AppColl does not interact with any foreign trademark databases.
